Install VLC using Gnome Software

On Gnome you can use Gnome software to install VLC. To install VLC, first you need to launch Gnome Software.

Open Gnome Menu, and search for 'Gnome Software', and click to the 'Gnome software' icon to launch it

This will open Gnome Software, now simply click to the 'Search' icon, and search for 'vlc' and press enter

Next, once VLC shows up on the search results, click on it

Now to install VLC, you need to click to the 'Install' button.

And the installation process will begin, wait until vlc has been installed on your system.

Next, the button to launch VLC will show up once vlc has been installed on your system. Click on it to launch VLC

And VLC will open

Install VLC with Terminal

VLC package is available on Debian repositories, so to install VLC using terminal, you need to launch terminal and run the command below

sudo apt install vlc

Authenticate when prompted, and press enter to continue installing VLC.

Once installed, launch VLC via terminal by running


Install VLC with Flatpak

Now to install VLC with flatpak, run the command below

flatpak install flathub org.videolan.VLC

Confirm by pressing Y on "Do you want to install it?" prompt, and vlc flatpak will be installed on your system

To run VLC flatpak, you can do so by running the command below

flatpak run org.videolan.VLC
