Sublime Text is a text editor app that you can use to code. Sublime Text, supports multiple programming languages, which means you can use it to code in any coding language that you are familiar with.

Sublime Text is also customizable, and most importantly you can add any plugin you want on your Sublime Text.

Sublime Text supports Ubuntu, however to install it, you need first to add its repository on your system, as Sublime Text it's not available by default on ubuntu repositories.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to Install Sublime Text on Ubuntu 23.04 via three simple steps.

Step 1 - Install Sublime GPG Key

Before adding Sublime Text repository on your system, first you must add the GPG key of Sublime Text on your system. Adding Sublime Text's GPG key is quite easy, and you can do it via the command below

wget -qO - | gpg --dearmor | sudo tee /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/sublimehq-archive.gpg > /dev/null

Step 2 - Add Sublime Repository

Next, you need to add Sublime repository on your system. Sublime repository that we are adding in this step, is the source from where the system will download Sublime package.

To add Sublime Text repository on Ubuntu 23.04. Launch your terminal, and run the command below

echo "deb apt/stable/" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/sublime-text.list

Note: The command above will create sublime-text.list file on the sources directory /etc/apt/sources .

sublime-text.list is the file that contains Sublime Text repository

Step 3 - Update Package Database

Once you have added GPG Key, and added Sublime Repository on your system. Now you need to update your system, so that Sublime Text repo is added on the system and it can be used to download Sublime package.

On your terminal, run

sudo apt update

Sublime Text repository should return Get on your terminal, this means the repository has been added and you can proceed to install Sublime Text on the next step

Step 4 - Install Sublime Text

Once you have added the GPG key, added the repository and updated your package database. You are good to go, and install Sublime Text on Ubuntu 23.04.

Installing Sublime Text, launch the terminal, and run the following command

sudo apt install sublime-text

Launch Sublime Text

You can launch Sublime Text from the applications menu. Search for 'sublime' on the applications menu, and launch it by clicking the Sublime's icon.
