Skype is one of the most popular video calling software, it is used by people all around the world. Skype supports Mac, Windows and Linux.

Even though skype it's not an open source app, and it's not available on Ubuntu repository, it is supported on Linux and there are multiple ways to install it.

Installing Skype on Ubuntu 23.04 is quite simple, all you have to do is follow the installation steps in this tutorial.

Install Skype via Deb

There are several methods to install a deb file on Ubuntu. In this tutorial, we are going to install skype by downloading its deb file with get and then installing it.

So, first launch your terminal, and download the deb file with wget


Next, you need to install the deb file that you downloaded. To do this, simply run the command below

sudo dpkg -i skypeforlinux-64.deb

Once Skype has been installed on your system, you can now launch it and use it. The skype icon will get added on the applications menu, so you can easily find it by going to Applications menu.

Install Skype via Snap

Skype can also be installed by using snap. Snap is installed by default on Ubuntu 23.04, so you don't have to install it manually, in order to be able to install skype with it.

Now, to install skype with snap, launch terminal, and run the command below

sudo snap install skype

Next, authenticate by entering sudo password, and the installation process will begin.
