In this tutorial, you will learn how to install shotcut on Ubuntu 22.04, via two different methods.

shotcut is a free and open source editor that you can use to edit your videos on your Linux machine.

In the first method, we'll be installing shotcut via the official Ubuntu 22.04 repository.

In the second method, we'll be installing shotcut via the official flatpak, which shotcut provides for linux users that don't want to install shotcut the traditional way through the default repositories.

Install Shotcut on Ubuntu 22.04

Method 1: Install Shotcut via apt

shotcut package can be found on Ubuntu 22.04 universe repository, which means you can install shotcut on your Ubuntu 22.04 machine directly from your terminal by using any package manager.

In this tutorial, we'll be using apt package manager, to install shotcut video editor.

To install shotcut on your machine, simply run the command below.

sudo apt install shotcut

Method 2: Install Shotcut via Flatpak

Flapak is not included in Ubuntu 22.04 by default, which means in order to use Flatpak you must install it first.

Flatpak is included in the main repository of Ubuntu 22.04, so you can easily install flatpak by running the command below.

sudo apt install flatpak

Once flatpak is installed on your machine, proceed to install Flathub repository. Flathub repository is needed to install flatpak apps.

To install Flathub repository, run the following.

flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

Now you should be able to install shotcut via flatpak, to do so, run the command below.

flatpak install flathub org.shotcut.Shotcut

Launch Shotcut

Depending the method you chose to install shotcut, shotcut can be launched using your terminal, or GUI.

To launch shotcut using terminal, run the following command.

shotcut

To launch shotcut by using GUI, open the Applications Menu and search for "Shotcut", then simply click shotcut to run it.

In this tutorial, we installed shotcut via two different methods, which means to uninstall shotcut can also be done via two different methods.

Uninstall shotcut via apt

To uninstall shotcut that we installed via apt package manager, run the command below.

sudo apt remove shotcut

Uninstall shotcut via Flatpak

To uninstall shotcut that we installed via flatpak, simply run the following.

flatpak uninstall org.shotcut.Shotcut
