Flathub is the repository from where you can download flatpak apps on your system.

To be able to use flathub repository and download flatpaks apps from it, you will also need to have flatpak installed on your system.

Installing flatpak and flathub repository on your Debian 12 machine is quite easy.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to install Flatpak and Flathub repository on Debian 12.

Step 1 - Install Flatpak

Before you install Flathub repository on your machine, you need to install flatpak first.

This is because flathub repository won't work without flatpak since flathub is the repository for flatpak apps.

Flatpak package is avaialable on Debian official repository and you can install it easily from your terminal by using the apt install command.

To install Flatpak on your Debian 12 machine, simply run the command below

sudo apt install flatpak

Step 2 - Install Flatpak Gnome Plugin

If you are using Gnome as the DE of your Debian 12 machine, then you can also install the flatpak Gnome plugin.

This plugin makes it possible so that you can install any flatpak app by clicking the Install button and not having to use the terminal.

Since this is a Gnome plugin, it won't work with other Desktop environments.

sudo apt install gnome-software-plugin-flatpak

Step 3 - Install Flathub Repository

Now that you have installed Flatpak, and the plugin for Gnome desktop environment, proceed to install Flathub repository via the command below

flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

Once you run the command above, you will see the authentication window. Proceed to authenticate in order to install Flathub repository on your machine.

Once authenticated, you should see a similar output on your terminal. This means that flathub repository has now been added on your system.

Step 4 - Reboot your Debian 12 machine

All you have to do now is reboot your machine and start using Flatpak
