How to install Chromium on Rocky Linux

Chromium is not installed by default on Rocky Linux, so in order to use Chromium on your Rocky linux machine, you need to install it first.

Installing Chromium on Rocky Linux, is simple, and it can be done via dnf package manager.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to install Chromium browser on Rocky Linux.

Step 1 - Enable CRB on Rocky Linux

First thing that you need to do is to enable the "Code Ready Builder" on your Rocky Linux machine.

CRB can be enabled on Rocky Linux easily using dnf.

To do so, simply run the command below.

sudo dnf config-manager --set-enabled crb

Step 2 - Import EPEL Repository

Once you have enabled CRB on your machine, now you need to import the EPEL repository.

In order to be able to download and install Chromium using dnf package manager, first you must import EPEL and EPEL next Repositories.

To import EPEL repository on Rocky Linux, all you need to do is run the command below.

sudo dnf install epel-release epel-next-release

Step 3 - Update Rocky Linux

Now that CRB is enabled, and EPEL repositories imported on your Rocky Linux machine, you need now to update your system, so you have access to the latest packages on EPEL and main repositories on Rocky Linux.

To do so, simply execute the command below.

sudo dnf upgrade --refresh

Once the update process starts, you should see "Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 9" output on your terminal, this means that EPEL repository is now imported and we can use it.

Step 4 - Install Chromium on Rocky Linux

Chromium can be easily installed on Rocky Linux via dnf package manager, by downloading and installing chromium from the EPEL repository.

To install Chromium on Rocky Linux, execute the command below.

sudo dnf install chromium

Next, you will be prompted to confirm installing Chromium. To confirm that you want to install Chromium, simply type Y, and then press Enter.

Step 5 - Use Chromium on Rocky Linux

Chromium is now installed on your Rocky linux machine, which means, all you have to do now is launch Chromium.

There are two ways to launch Chromium on Rocky Linux.

To launch Chromium via the terminal, launch your terminal by pressing CTRL + ALT +T, and run the command below.

chromium

Another way of launching Chromium on Rocky Linux, is by using GUI. You can easily launch Chromium via applications Menu.

To do so, simply click Activities > Search for: "Chromium > Click Chromium icon to launch it.

Update Chromium on Rocky Linux

Updating Chromium on Rocky Linux is quite simple, and it can be done from the terminal by using dnf.

To do so, simply run the command below.

sudo dnf update -y

Uninstalling Chromium on Rocky Linux

In this tutorial, we installed Chromium via dnf package manager in Rocky Linux, which means uninstalling Chromium is also done via dnf.

To uninstall Chromium on Rocky Linux, simply execute the following.

sudo dnf remove chromium
