In this tutorial, you will learn how to install Blender on Ubuntu.

Blender is available on the universe repository of Ubuntu 22.04, and you can install it on your machine easily by using the apt package manager.

Blender can also be installed on other Ubuntu versions such as : Ubuntu 20.04, 23.04 and the latest version of Ubuntu 23.10, by using apt package manager.

However, installing blender via apt in all supported Ubuntu versions, is not done only via apt, as Blender offers Blender as flatpak app, meaning you can install Blender via flatpak easily.

In this tutorial, we'll be installing Blender via apt package manager, and via Flatpak.

Install Blender via apt

Step 1 - Update the system

Before installing Blender on your Ubuntu machine, if you haven't updated your package index recently, you need to update it to make sure that the universe repository is enabled and can be used to download blender.

sudo apt update

Step 2 - Install Blender

Now that you updated your package index, universe repository should be enabled and you can proceed to install Blender on your system via apt package manager.

To install Blender on your system, simply run the command below.

sudo apt install blender

Step 3 - Launch Blender

Blender should be now installed on your Ubuntu machine.

To launch Blender, simply issue the following command.

blender

Alternatively, you can also launch Blender normally from the Applications Menu.

Install Blender via Flatpak

Installing Blender using flatpak is very easy. All you have to do is use the install command and you should be able to install Blender on your system.

To do so, run the following.

flatpak install flathub org.blender.Blender

How to uninstall Blender

In this tutorial, we used apt and flatpak to install Blender. So uninstalling Blender can be done by using the same package manager we used to install it.

To uninstall Blender via apt, simply run the command below.

sudo apt remove blender

If you installed Blender via flatpak, then you can easily uninstall it via the command below.

flatpak uninstall org.blender.Blender
