Fedora media writer is a tool that you can use to create a bootable usb flash drive with Fedora OS on it.
Fedora media writer also allows you to download the version of Fedora you want directly on your usb flash drive.
This option is very useful and it helps users that are not familiar with downloading the ISO file manually.
All you have to do is, choose the version of Fedora that you want to install, and make a bootable usb with it.
A great thing about Fedora media writer is that you can run this tool on any linux distro, meaning you are not limited to using only Fedora when creating Fedora images.
You can also use Fedora Media writer to create bootable devices for other Linux distros. However, it's best to use it only for Fedora images.
In this tutorial, you will learn how to install Fedora media writer and how to use it
Step 1 - Install Fedora Media Writer
Fedora Media Writer is found on flathub repository. To install Fedora media writer, flatpak must also be already installed on your system.
To install Fedora media writer, run the command below
flatpak install flathub org.fedoraproject.MediaWriter
Step 2 - Create Fedora Image
Run the command below to Launch Fedora Media writer
flatpak run org.fedoraproject.MediaWriter
Next, you will be asked to choose the source of the ISO file. In this tutorial, we'll be downloading Fedora ISO using the "Download automatically" option
Select "Download Automatically" and click to "Next"
Now, you need to choose which edition of Fedora you want to download. We went with "Fedora Workstation" which is offered under "Official Editions" option. Once you choose version, continue by clicking "Next"
In this step you can choose version, hardware archictecture and the usb flash drive where you want to install Fedora
Click to "Download & Write" to Download and write fedora image on your device
Next, you will be asked to authenticate. Enter sudo password and press enter to proceed
And Fedora ISO will begin downloading
Once the ISO file has been downloaded, you will see the following window.
Now, simply click to "Write" button, and Fedora media writer will begin writing Fedora image
Authenticate again, and press enter to continue
And Fedora media writer will now begin making a bootable usb device with Fedora Workstation 38
You will see the following notification once the process has been completed. And you should be able to use your usb flash drive now to install Fedora on your machine.
