Adding another user on Debian 12, is easy, and it can be done without having to use the terminal.

If you are new to Debian 12, and you don't feel comfortable using terminal, you shouldn't because you can add another user to your system without using the terminal at all.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a user account on Debian 12, by using GUI.

1) Open 'Gnome Menu'

2) Search for 'settings' on the search box, and launch settings window by clicking over the settings icon

3) Next, scroll down until you see Users and click on it

4)Next you need to 'Unlock' the settings. These settings are disabled by default, to enable them you must authenticate, by entering sudo password.

To do this, click on 'Unlock' button

5) Now simply type sudo password and press enter

6) Once you are authenticated, you will see that the settings are enabled and you can use them now.

Now, let's add another user on the system.

Click on 'Add User'

7) Next, you will see the following window. In this window, you need to set the credentials of the user. Enter name, username, set a password or leave this option as default where user can set their own password at the login screen.

You can also give administrator permission, by enabling the switch under Administrator setting.

Once you are done with the credentials, click to 'Add' button, to save changes and add the user on your system.

8) Adding another user to your system, requires sudo permission, so once you click on the 'Add' button you will see the following prompt.

Enter your sudo password and press enter

9) Next, it should take you to the new user window as shown in the image below. This means the new user has been successfully added on your system, and you can login to the new user account.

10) During the creation of the new user account, we chose to not set a password for the new user, but let the new user set a password on the login screen instead.

To do this, you need to logout from your current user.

Now once you type the new username in the username box, you will get the following notification message "You are required to change your password immediately(administrator enforced)"

Enter the password that you want to set for the new user and press the login button

Next, you need to re-enter the same password again, and click to 'Login' button to set this as your password

That's it! You can now use your system with the newly created user account.
