Adding new users on your Arch Linux machine, is done in cases when you need to have multiple user accounts, that you can use to manage your Arch Linux machine, when you need to install different stuff on each account as you don't want to use one single account for everything, or simply when you are sharing your Arch Linux machine with someone else.

Create a new User on Arch Linux

Step 1 - Log in as Root on your machine

Root user account has access to add new users on your system, so before adding a new user, make sure that your current account has the right permissions to do this.

You can simply log out from your regular user account, and login to root. You can also do this by switching the users without logging out, that's up to you.

And proceed to login as Root

Step 2 - Go to 'Settings'

Now that you are logged in as 'Root', you are good to go ahead and create a new user account.

To do this, First click to Menu button

This will open the Applications menu, and from there you can go to "Settings" window. There are two ways to do this, you can simply find the Settings icon on the apps, or use the search box and search for "Settings" and then to launch it click the icon.

Using the search box is way faster and it saves you time if you have a lot of apps on your machine.

Step 3 - Create a new User

Once you are in the Settings window, scroll down until you find "Users" and click it.

Now you can proceed to create your new user account.

1)First click to "Add User" button

2) Clicking to "Add User" button will take you to the following window. In this window you need to enter details about the new user account.

Name - Set a name for your user account

Username - The username of your account

Administrator - Check this if you want the new user account to have administrator access

Password - You can enter a password, or let the user choose its own password when logging in

This is how the window should look like after filling out details.

3) Once you are done, click "Add" to create the new user.

Next, you will be taken to the new user's window as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 4 - Login to new User

You should be able to use your new user account now, to do this, simply log out from your Root session, and login using your new account.

As you can see in the login window - "OwlHowTo" is the new user account that we created, and we can now use it.
